West Perry star wrestler Ty Morrison

Ty Morrison is focused on one thing.  The West Perry senior wants to win a state gold medal.  "It means everything. I need it so bad," he told SV Sports' Paul Roberts.  Morrison is ranked #1 in Pennsylvania at 189 pounds.  He's (37-1) this year with the lone loss coming against Lane Foard of Benedictine College Prep in Virginia.  Foard came away with a 1-0 victory on December 29th.  Morrison squared off against Wilson senior Blaise Eidle in the District 3-3A championship on Saturday afternoon at Spring Grove High School.  Eidle, who has 173 career wins, captured the District 3 title at 172 pounds last year.  "I love him, he's an awesome kid. It's frustrating, him coming up to my bracket that I was ranked at. I really wanted to get to him," said Morrison.  He got a takedown in the first period, but the score remained 3-0 in the third period.  Morrison got another takedown with just two seconds left in the match for a 7-0 decision and the 189-pound title.  "I stayed patient, a little too patient. In the beginning, I wasn't getting to my stuff. At the end, I was kind of waiting for him to shoot. I need to score more points," explained Morrison.  He improved his career record to (169-31).  Morrison was one of three District 3 champions from West Perry.  Messiah commit Tucker Seidel finished first at 172 pounds, and Jackson Rush was on the top of the podium at 133 pounds.  "We challenge each other. It's an awesome environment in the room. We wrestle hard," emphasized Morrison.  The Mustangs have moved up from Class 2A to 3A this season.  "I think 3A is a lot deeper in State's in each weight class," replied Morrison.  He ended up fourth at 160 pounds in the PIAA-2A tournament a year ago.  Morrison visited some Division I college programs, however, he opted to commit to Pitt-Johnstown.  The Mountain Cats are one of the top Division II schools in the country.  Plus, Ty will get to attend college with his brother.  Brad Morrison transferred from Lock Haven to Pitt-Johnstown.  For now, Ty is locked in on claiming a state title.  "Since last year, it's all that has been on my mind," he said.
