UNC lacrosse commit Audrey Hurleman

As a three-sport standout at Wyomissing High School, Audrey Hurleman wasn't used to having much downtime.  On April 9, 2024, however, everything came to an abrupt halt.  Hurleman suffered a torn ACL in her left knee while playing lacrosse.  She had surgery on April 29 and then began the long road to recovery.  "If you really have a dream and aspiration then you want to go chase it, but you have to put in the work before you can even get there," she told SV Sports' Paul Roberts.  Hurleman is no stranger to hard work.  She did rehab three times a week, as well as working with a trainer in Philadelphia.  On January 28, nine months after her surgery, Hurleman returned to the basketball court.  The Spartans defeated Hamburg 66-15 on Senior Night.  "It was a surreal experience to be back on the court with my best friends, being able to play a sport that I love. It was really exciting to be out there," she said.  "It's been a long time coming," added Hurleman.  The 5'8 senior is committed to North Carolina for lacrosse.  Coming back during the basketball season was a big decision for Audrey and her family.  "I've played three sports my whole life. It's really hard to turn your back to that," explained Hurleman.  Basketball happens to be her favorite sport.  She helped Wyomissing go (31-1) a season ago and reach the state semifinals.  The Spartans have won back-to-back Berks County and District 3-4A championships.  They're (18-3) this year.  Wyomissing's lacrosse team was the District 3-2A runner-up in 2024.  Hurleman was an All-County selection as a sophomore.  She's a midfielder for the Spartans, but will focus on defense in college.  Hurleman chose UNC over Michigan and Richmond.  "I think the program and the coaches are amazing and I love the people there. It's a great atmosphere and I'm so excited to go work with them," she replied.  The Tar Heels are ranked #4 in the country in the preseason polls.  Hurleman was an All-County pick in soccer as a junior.  She missed her senior season due to her knee injury.  Wyomissing went (19-3-1) and earned its fourth District 3-2A title in five years.  Audrey comes from a very athletic family.  Her older brother, Max, was an All-State football player for the Spartans.  After four years at Colgate, Max opted to walk-on at Notre Dame as a graduate student.  He became the punt returner for the Fighting Irish and played in the CFP National Championship against Ohio State.  So who's the best athlete in the Hurleman family?  "I'd say Max set a very high standard for the rest of us," stated Audrey with a smile.  She also excels in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA.  Hurleman passed on some advice to other student-athletes who are dealing with serious injuries.  "You gotta have a positive outlook, realize that your time is coming, and you have an opportunity to play again," she said.
