William & Mary soccer commit Ellie Leffler

It had been seven years since the Gov. Mifflin girls soccer team won a BCIAA championship.  The Mustangs were able to knock off perennial power Wyomissing and bring gold medals back to Shillington in 2014.  "To make a mark like that or leave a legacy, it's really insane. I'm really blessed that we had the opportunity to do that with all my best friends," Ellie Leffler told SV Sports' Paul Roberts.  The senior forward is a two-time All-State selection and three-time All-County pick.  Leffler finished her high school career with 60 goals.  Gov. Mifflin held off #8 seed Twin Valley 1-0 in the Berks County quarterfinals.  The top-seeded Mustangs needed penalty kicks to get past Exeter in the semifinals.  There was more drama in the final against second-seeded Wyomissing.  The Spartans were going for a three-peat, but Gov. Mifflin wouldn't be denied.  Payton Klopp scored from 35 yards out with just 25 seconds remaining to give the Mustangs a dramatic 2-1 victory.  "I literally was in shock...It was great. We've never experienced something like that. Our team is super close. We've played together since we were little," remarked Leffler.  Lock Haven commit Nicole Crammer, All-State defender Sierra Hess, and Klopp are part of a talented senior class.  Sophomore goalkeeper Braelyn Reis and junior JaJa Gonzalez also came up big this past fall.  They were both chosen for the All-County team.  Leffler, who has a 3.85 GPA, will continue her soccer career at Division I William & Mary.  She noted that academics played an important role in her college decision.  "I want to come out of school with a really good opportunity to get a good job," replied Leffler.  She had a breakout season as a sophomore.  Leffler scored 24 goals and was voted the BCIAA Player of the Year.  She will miss playing for Ed Deren.  He has been the head coach at Gov. Mifflin for 31 years.  "He's an amazing coach, amazing guy. He will forever be with me. I've learned so much off of him," said Leffler.
