Wyomissing senior Kyla Lytle
Wyomissing girls soccer coach Rachel Hoffman recently decided to utilize Kyla Lytle in a different way on corner kicks. Lytle, a 6' senior defender, was moved up and stationed right in front of the goal keeper. That tactic paid big dividends in the District 3-2A championship at Landis Field. Lytle scored twice off corners in the second half as the Spartans defeated third-seeded Trinity 3-0. Lili Marshall, who missed last season due to a knee injury, got the assist on both of Lytle's goals. "She's amazing. It was basically like 75% her, I just had to tap it in," explained Lytle. Marshall kept her corner kicks low and around the near post where Lytle was waiting. Those goals came just five minutes apart. Lytle also gave credit to Coach Hoffman. "She's the best coach. She knows what she's talking about," replied Lytle. Wyomissing earned its fifth District 3 title overall and fourth in the last five years. The Spartans fell in the final to Trinity 2-1 in overtime a season ago. "It really pushed us because we knew what it felt like to lose," Lytle told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. Lytle, a physical presence on Wyomissing's back line, had scored just two goals all year before Saturday. "It's pretty crazy," she said. Her younger sister, Dulce, is much more accustomed to putting the ball in the back of the net. The junior forward scored four times in the District 3 semifinals versus Bishop McDevitt. Dulce Lytle provided the first goal for the (19-2-1) Spartans against Trinity. Maya Erby's attempt to clear the ball off the goal line hit Lytle in the stomach. Dulce charged forward and knocked the loose ball into the net at the 28:06 mark. Kyla enjoys playing with her sister. "I can't really describe it. It's the best feeling. I'm always proud of her," she noted. Wyomissing outscored its three opponents in the District 3 playoffs 13-0. The Spartans will try to keep the momentum going on Tuesday. They host Allentown Central Catholic at 3pm in the first round of the state tournament.
