Spring-Ford guard Jacob Nguyen
Jacob Nguyen and his Spring-Ford teammates haven't forgot about their 54-52 loss to Phoenixville in the Pioneer Athletic Conference championship. "Last year was tough...that's our main focus right now, the PAC title," Nguyen told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. Nguyen averaged 17 points a season ago as the Rams went (23-8). They qualified for the state playoffs by finishing ninth in the highly competitive District 1-6A tournament. Spring-Ford reached the PIAA-6A quarterfinals before falling to Philadelphia Catholic League power Archbishop Wood 67-61. Nguyen admits that as a freshman he was purely a spot-up shooter. However, that's no longer the case. "As years have gone on, I've been focusing on developing all my skills and developing my game overall," said Nguyen. The 6'4 senior has offers from Drexel, Penn, Bucknell, Lafayette, William & Mary, Albany, and Bryant. "Definitely a great education and a great connection to the staff," replied Nguyen when asked what he's looking for in a college. Nguyen was selected to the All-State team as a sophomore when the Rams got all the way to the state semifinals. He was an All-State pick last season as well. Spring-Ford only lost two seniors from last year's squad, but EJ Campbell will certainly be missed. The point guard stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals per game. Head coach Joe Dempsey is back for his fourth season in Royersford. "Dempsey is like a second father to me. He taught me so much and he's just a great coach," said Nguyen. With a quality coaching staff and a talent like Nguyen, don't be surprised if the Rams make another postseason run this winter.
