Millersville baseball commit Christo Hunsicker

Wilson's dugout was quiet on Monday at Boyertown.  "No one said anything. I appreciated that. They watch baseball, they know the game. They respected the unwritten rule," Christo Hunsicker told SV Sports' Paul Roberts.  Hunsicker's teammates weren't talking because he was firing a no-hitter, the first of his high school career.  The 6'3, 200-pound senior needed just 59 pitches to get through five innings.  He struck out six and walked one.  Austin Snyder pitched the final two frames for the Bulldogs.  The senior made sure that the no-hitter stayed intact.  "He stepped up when we really needed him. I'm so happy he was able to contribute. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of that from him," said Hunsicker.  Wilson beat the Bears 5-0 to improve to (2-0).  Boyertown has a very successful track record in both high school and legion baseball, including a PIAA title in 2016.  "We know it's gonna be a good game with them all the time and we've got to bring our A game if we want to win," acknowledged Hunsicker.  The Bulldogs are the defending BCIAA champions.  They finished third in the District 3-6A tournament and reached the state quarterfinals a season ago.  "We're looking to run back the county 'chip.' That's always the goal," stated Hunsicker.  Wilson competes in a tough division that includes rival Gov. Mifflin.  The Mustangs claimed the PIAA-5A crown last year.  "That game is always circled on the calendar. We always look forward to playing them," replied Hunsicker.  The Bulldogs will miss Matt VanOstenbridge who has moved on to Penn State.  The southpaw piled up 70 strikeouts while allowing just 28 hits over 54.2 innings in 2024.  VanOstenbridge (6-1, 0.90) was a second team All-State selection.  Wilson does return a pair of experienced pitchers in Hunsicker and Ben Kulp.  Hunsicker (3-1, 2.72) whiffed 43 batters in 38.2 innings.  He also did damage at the plate with ten extra-base hits, including a team-high three homers.  Kulp had a 3.02 ERA last spring.  The 6'2, 215-pound junior is throwing in the low-90s.  Jack Gabel is a player to watch on the mound and at the dish.  "I'm glad that he's on our team, not on the other teams. He'll come up big again for us this year. I love playing with him," said Hunsicker.  Gabel had a .369 batting average as a sophomore.  Hunsicker has already had a busy senior year.  The OLB/TE helped the (11-2) Bulldogs win the Section 1 championship in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.  He was second on the team with 66 tackles.  Hunsicker was also part of Wilson's (24-7) basketball squad that earned its second straight BCIAA title.  He's committed to Millersville for baseball.  His older brother, Tommy, is on the Marauders football team.  "I love hanging out with my brother. I'm excited to go there with him. If I need anything from him, he's there for me. If he needs anything from me, I'm there for him," noted Christo.
