Villanova WR commit Braden Reed
Braden Reed has put up big numbers at Pope John Paul II. Over the past two seasons, the All-State wide receiver has hauled in 100 passes for 1,882 yards and 21 touchdowns. "A lot of it just comes out of route running, football IQ, knowing what coverage they're in [and] reading things pre-snap," Reed told Paul Roberts of SV Sports. The 5'10, 170-pound rising senior is a student of the game with an excellent teacher. Braden's dad, Scott Reed, is the Golden Panthers' head coach. He led Pope John Paul II to its first Pioneer Athletic Conference championship last year. The Golden Panthers held off Spring-Ford 28-27 in an instant classic. They went on to win their second District 1 title before losing 21-13 to Bonner-Prendergast in the first round of the PIAA-4A playoffs. Reed, who spent 12 seasons as the head coach at Perkiomen Valley, is (22-3) since taking over at Pope John Paul II. He has 102 career victories. His son will once again be working with rising senior quarterback Luke Terlesky. The West Chester University baseball commit threw for 1,962 yards and 23 TD in 2023. Terlesky has completed an eye-popping 69% of his passes in each of the past two seasons. "I think we have great chemistry. He's been my QB since third grade. We've been together for awhile," noted Braden Reed. The Golden Panthers will need to replace several key players including offensive tackle Kevin Heywood and running back Boyd Skarbek. They were both All-State selections during a (12-1, 5-0) campaign. Skarbek ran for 1,765 yards and 28 scores last fall. Heywood is now at Wisconsin. Reed said to keep an eye out for junior wide receivers Brandon DeAngelo and Jacob Lucci. Pope John Paul II travels to Springfield Township on August 23 for its opener. Reed will be taking his talents to Villanova next year. "It was close to home. It had a great family atmosphere. I love the coaches," he replied.
