Nazareth QB and Va Tech commit Peyton Falzone

Peyton Falzone can beat you with his arm and his legs.  The 6'5, 205-pound junior launched four touchdown passes in the first half against Wilson, but Nazareth trailed the Bulldogs 31-28 at halftime.  The Virginia Tech commit showed off his speed with four minutes left in the third quarter.  Falzone raced 50 yards down the right sideline for the go-ahead score in front of more than 4,000 fans.  "I wasn't sure what the [defensive] end was gonna do. He kind of flew up the field. I just followed my blockers and we were able to break one. I'm super happy for the guys up front," he told Paul Roberts of SV Sports.  The (3-0) Blue Eagles held on for a thrilling 35-31 victory.  Wilson running back Correll Akings fumbled at the 1-yard line with one minute remaining.  Matt Dorniak, a 270-pound senior, recovered the ball in the end zone for Nazareth.  Falzone gave a lot of credit to the defense.  "The second half was a different ball game. We were able to hold them to a shutout and that's so big for us," he said.  The first half was full of explosive plays.  The Blue Eagles and Bulldogs combined for 525 yards and 27 first downs in 24 minutes.  Falzone tossed touchdown passes of 53 and 35 yards to Lafayette commit Caleb Newsome.  He hit tight end Tanner Zelachowski for a 62-yard score.  Midway through the second quarter, Falzone connected with sophomore Matt Leluga for a 42-yard TD.  The Bulldogs slipped to (2-1) despite outgaining Nazareth 434-to-397.  Wilson holds the current state record with 48 consecutive winning seasons.  "I have so much respect for them. They're so well-coached. Their players, hats off to them," replied Falzone.  Madyx Gruber threw for 233 yards and ran for three touchdowns.  Akings racked up 131 yards and a score on 29 carries.  In an interesting twist, Wilson assistant coach Chad Henne trains Falzone in the offseason.  On Friday night, they were on opposite sidelines.  Henne, a Wilson graduate, spent 15 years in the NFL and won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs.  Falzone finished 13-of-23 for 254 yards.  When asked about his commitment to Virginia Tech, he said, "I love the coaching staff. Those are people I want to play for...The tradition down there is incredible."  The Blue Eagles are ranked #5 in the state in Class 6A by PennLive.  They have another big test this Friday against the (3-0) Freedom Patriots.
