C.W. tennis star Emma Perkins
Emma Perkins' high school tennis career began with a state championship and ended with a full scholarship to a Division I program. It has been quite a ride for the 6'1 senior at Conrad Weiser. Perkins announced this week that she will attend Mount St. Mary's in Maryland. "I really liked the coach. I felt a connection with the school and I loved everything about it," she told SV Sports' Paul Roberts. Perkins expects to play both singles and doubles in college while studying marketing. Perkins was just a freshman when she won state gold in doubles with Alex Pancu. "I didn't realize how special it was until I actually achieved it. I've never experienced that before," she said. Perkins is one of only three girls to win four consecutive Berks County Flight 1 singles championships. She earned gold medals in the District 3 doubles tournament from 2020-2022. Perkins focused on singles this year and won the District 3 title. She earned a silver at the PIAA-2A tournament to finish her career. Perkins is a four-time All-State selection. She thanked Scouts' head coach Ryan Knarr and his staff. "They set me up for the success that I've accomplished for the past four years and beyond. I owe everything to them," remarked Perkins. Knarr was named the National High School Coach of the Year in 2021 by the USPTA. Perkins' teammates were in attendance when she made the announcement on Thursday afternoon at the Sinking Spring YMCA. "It means everything, just to say my last goodbye to everyone," she said.
