Lampeter-Strasburg QB Caileb Howse
Despite having several first-year starters, Caileb Howse was optimistic heading into this season. "I had full confidence that we could do something big, but I definitely wasn't expecting to be the first team in L-S history to go (10-0)," said Howse with a smile. Lampeter-Strasburg completed an undefeated regular season with an impressive 20-7 victory at Wyomissing on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 in the state in Class 4A. The Pioneers clinched the Section 4 championship in the Lancaster-Lebanon League and ended the Spartans' 36-game home winning streak. "It proved how much of a team that we are and that we're never gonna put each other down. We just keep pushing each other to get better," Howse told Paul Roberts of SV Sports. The 6', 200-pound senior quarterback ran for 129 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. "It was very physical, but it was definitely worth it," replied Howse. He has a team-high 1,159 rushing yards with 19 TD. Howse has added 1,215 yards through the air while completing 67% of his passes. He has 11 TD tosses and no interceptions. Howse ran wild against Twin Valley two weeks ago. He piled up 323 yards and seven scores on 15 carries. Lampeter-Strasburg opened eyes across the state by blowing out the (8-2) Raiders 62-14. The Pioneers' defense shined at Wyomissing. They held the (8-2, 6-1) Spartans to 146 total yards. Senior linebackers Dominic Brown and Emory Fluhr shut down Wyomissing's Wing-T attack. Fluhr came up with an interception with 3:45 remaining. Brown, who's also a 1,000-yard rusher, grinded out 116 yards and a score on 28 carries. He has 19 touchdown runs this fall. Fluhr and Danny Weichler have combined for 43 receptions and 7 TD. Lampeter-Strasburg is led up front by junior Collin Shelley (6'4, 290) and sophomore Thad Wolf (6'4, 315). The Pioneers earned a bye in the District 3-4A playoffs as the #1 seed. They will host either #8 ELCO or #9 Octorara on Friday, November 8th. "This whole experience has been awesome and the team that we've become," said Howse.
