Jake Karnish of Fleetwood talks with SV Sports
There’s a buzz around Fleetwood High School about the boys basketball team. The Tigers are headed to Hershey on Thursday for the District 3-4A championship game. “This is crazy. This is always a dream. When you’re a kid, this is what you want to do when you go to high school,” said Jake Karnish. Fleetwood has won four District 3 titles with the last one coming in 1990. Karnish is averaging nearly 22 points. The 6’2 senior is the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,378 points. “It’s a great feeling. It still hasn’t really sunk in yet,” he replied. The (22-3) Tigers have a lot of momentum after blowing out #3 seed Littlestown 58-37 in the semifinals. “I think that’s the most complete [game] we’ve ever played. Everyone stepped up,” emphasized Karnish. The second-seeded Tigers take on top-seeded Berks Catholic at 12:45pm at the Giant Center. “It’s gonna be different for us. We’ve never played anywhere like that before. I’m excited…should be a fun game,” stated Karnish. The (22-4) Saints are the defending District 3-4A champions. They’ve claimed four titles in the past eleven seasons. Karnish is good friends with one of Berks Catholic’s top players. He was on the same AAU club as all-county selection Ryan Koch. Karnish has knocked down 27 treys this year. The King’s College commit is shooting 82% from the free throw line. He’s a two-time, all-county pick. Since Karnish will be in Hershey this week, SV Sports’ Paul Roberts asked him about his favorite candy and amusement park rides. The Tigers are hoping their trip to “Chocolate Town” is a sweet one.
